We were down in Florida this past week, enjoying the sun and sand. While we get pretty good weather in Atlanta, Georgia, there is nothing quite like the gulf shore beaches. We were driving along when someone cut us off in traffic. We really didn't think much of it, obviously someone was in a hurry. We pulled up to the toll booth and the toll booth operator said we were taken care of. Huh? She said that tan SUV ahead of you paid for your toll. We were surprised and a bit confused at first. Maybe they got us mixed up with a family member that may have been traveling behind them? Then we realized the vehicle that paid our toll, was the one that cut us off. It was only a dollar but was such a nice gesture. We couldn't catch up to them to say thanks, but we did appreciate the kindness of a stranger.
This is the sun setting on Anna Maria Island in Florida.

There is nothing like the kindness of strangers - how nice that person did that for you. Hope your holiday was wonderful!
Jen,
What a great idea!
Thanks for sharing.
Sean
Thank you for sharing the great story! We've all accidentally done something on the roadway we shouldn't have and never been able to correct it. Nice that these people did so!
Jen - that was a very nice thing. It sounds like that person felt bad for his/her nasty driving habits - and it was a nice way to say they were sorry. I hope you enjoy the gulf beaches! Happy New Year!
Hi Jen, I bet you were surprised, but that was really nice of them. I hope you are enjoying the holidays!
Best Wishes!
Oh, I just realized that photo was taken an Anna Marie Island. I went there several years in a row as a young teenager and just loved it! I would really like to go back again!
Hey, Jen. That is awesome. What a great way to make up for cutting you off. All my best in 2009, Jim
Nice to see they recognized that they cut you off - and that it was wrong. Without waiting for you to catch up, the toll booth gesture was a way to communicate that...pretty cool.
I love the gulf coast beaches...kinda miss being there. Lived at Pass-a-Grille Beach for 4 years on the southern tip of the St. Pete penninsula.
Jen,
I am surprised that living in Atlanta that you are not familiar with southern hospitality.....I meet many people who tell me they are afraid at first because everyone is so nice and speaks and wave.
What a thoughtful way to say sorry.
Accidently cutting someone off happens to the best of us. I'll have to remember that the next time I do it. If you really want to through someone in for a loop, pay for the car that's not being a polite driver. You just might change his (or her) driving that day.
Hey, Jen. Russel does that quite often. He said it was one of the first "random acts of kindness" that he ever learned. He did it on Christmas Day when we were driving around taking pictures of all the lighting displays. I did a blog on the good pictures, taken by me, and he did a blog on the weird pictures, taken by him.
Best wishes for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity for 2009.
Jen, I think you had a run in with a very considerate person who must have been distracted. Either way, what a way to say "I am sorry" by covering your toll.
Hi Jen~ I think being able to pay it forward is so rewarding, don't you? It is awesome how those random acts of kindness make people feel. If we could all just do it every day! I love your photo of the ocean. I LOVE the Beach and all ocean photos!

Hi Jen, What a great story! And a truly beautiful photo of the sun setting on Anna Maria Island.
Jen, Isn't it nice when people do the unexpected.....That's what is so cool about right now---everybody is in such a state of confusion, the brain can't work like it used to. Like when someone cut another person off in traffic, there was a really big chance for road rage! maybe the turmoil we are in right now in the world will bring us all to a better place!
Great story--thanks for sharing it!
What a nice story. There are kind people everywhere! Unfortunately sometimes we expect the worse out of folks rather than the best! Just pass the favor on to a stranger - it'll make your day!
