Free State Park Passes at the Library?

When was the last time you went to the Dekalb County Public Library?  If you are not familiar with it, you'll want to check it out.   There are 22 branches of the library, so there is probably one near you.  One of the best features I like is being able to search the library database from the comfort of my own home. I can go online and choose what I want, which is usually a different fitness DVD. The library will then email me to let me know that my selection has arrived at the branch I choose.  I go pick it up, it's quick and easy.

So while I was there today, returning another DVD, I happened to see a poster that really piqued my interest.  The library actually has Georgia State Park Passes to lend out.  I just mentioned this to my husband, and he said "what's the catch?" No catch, you can borrow a Park Pass Kit. It consists of a park pass hanging tag for your vehicle, 1 library loan pass for Historic sites in GA, along with the 2008 Guide to Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites pamphlet and Get Outdoors Georgia pamphlet in one folder.  You can get into the State Parks free for 7 days.  There are 63 Parks and Historic sites.  If you were to buy the annual passes it would cost $30 for the State Parks and $35 for a family pass to the Historic sites. The pass will save you on the parking fees for all the parks and save you the fees for the historic sites. To see all the parks, check out www.gastateparks.org.  I thought this was pretty great, considering autumn is coming and it's time to get outdoors and play.

The library has 45 copies of the pass.  So how do you reserve yours? Go to www.dekalblibrary.org.  At the top right of the page under Find Books, Movies and Film, type in Parks Pass, hit go. Look for Georgia State Parks and Historic sites Park Pass.  Click on the Request Item button. Put your barcode from your library card in and your pin.  If you don't know your pin, contact the library.  They'll email you when your request comes in.  You can also reserve your Pass by just going up to the Check Out desk and asking for it.  Visit your local library and take advantage of these money saving deals.

Hi Jen, nice rainbow shot. I used to live in Stone Mountain Ga back in the mid 70's. My son is in Atlanta now and his mom lives in Alpharetta.

Now that's what I call a library! State park passes. Hmm. I wonder if we have such a system here. Will have to check it out.

Nice rainbow picture.

That is cool of your public library system! But, I do want to know where that photo was taken! We just got back from a camping trip here where we visited 10 falls, but none looked as big as the one in the photo.

Jen, That is one wonderful library, state park passes given out.  How much better can it get?  The picture above with the rainbow is nothing to sneeze at either.

Hope you have a great day.
