Nail Salon in Decatur GA- Spotlight on Miss Nails Salon

There are lots of Nail Salons in Decatur, GA. One of my favorites is Miss Nails Salon located at 618 Church Street in Decatur. It's near the intersection of Commerce Drive, just a block from Decatur Square.

Why do I like Miss Nails so much? Its family owned and operated and the pride of ownership shows. Tina, the owner and the staff are always friendly and professional. It's clean and prices are reasonable. The service is great too. I always feel like my business is appreciated. What's not to like? Nail Salon in Decatur GA

Miss Nails Salon has been in business since 1999.  I've been going there since it opened.  Yes, I've tried other Nail Salons, but keep going back to Miss Nails. Over the years the businesses next door to the left of Miss Nails have changed from various sandwich shops to now a Chinese restaurant.  Maud Baker Florist Shop is on the other side. Miss Nails offers waxing, massages, manicures and pedicures. 

When you need to de-stress, nothing beats sitting in the massaging Pedi-Spa throne while getting a pedicure. A French spa pedicure is $30.  A basic manicure is just $10. See Miss Nails' website for a full list of services.

Medlock Commons - Luxury Homes in Decatur GA

Medlock Commons in Decatur, GA is an in town neighborhood of distinction. The homes were built 2003-2004 by Award Winning Builder John Willis. He was awarded Builder of the Year in 2004. As a Certified Professional Home Builder, he stands behind his work. It is quality and top notch. 

Medlock Commons is a small community of 12 homes.  It's a private paved road maintained by the Homeowners Association. It often doesn't come up on a GPS, but it's off of Medlock Rd between North Decatur Rd and Church Street in Decatur, GA.  It's next to Medlock Place, the gated community on Medlock Rd at the top of Greylock Place.  Medlock Commons sits right outside the city limits of Decatur in unincorporated DeKalb County.

This community has a strong Homeowners Association. HOA dues of $350 a year cover the entrance landscaping and street lights. It also covers the cleaning of the street and all homeowner's driveways every two weeks. 

The homes in Medlock Commons all have 2 car garages. Hardwoods are standard throughout the main floors. The homes have 3 to 5 bedrooms, some have finished terrace levels. All have back decks or outdoor entertaining space. Each home is unique in that there are no repeated floor plans or repeated exteriors in this community. When it was built it was a requirement that each yard have at least 1 tree. Because of that, Medlock Commons is a pretty tree lined street.  The lots are small, under 1/3 of an acre which is typical for in town living.  For busy homeowners, that's a great thing.

There is currently one home for sale at Medlock Commons. It's a beautiful home listed at $719K. It's 5 bedrooms, 5 full baths, full finished terrace level and has all the bells and whistles.

  • Medlock Park across North Decatur Rd is less than a mile
  • DeKalb County's library is just over a mile away. 
  • Kroger and Publix Grocery stores are less than a mile away. 
  • DeKalb Medical Center's Wellness Center is about 1/3 of a mile
  • YMCA on Clairmont Rd is under a mile.

The community is close to CDC, Emory University, Agnes Scott College, DeKalb Medical Center and just 7 miles to downtown Atlanta.

Lake Claire in Atlanta GA

Lake Claire is an in town neighborhood within the city limits of Atlanta, GA in DeKalb County on the northeast side. Neighboring communities include Candler Park to the west, Druid Hills to the north, Decatur to the east and Kirkwood to the south. Currently there are 26 homes on the market ranging in price from $189,900 for a 2 bedroom/1 bath home built in 1925 to $999,000 for a renovated 5 bedroom/3 bath home built in 1915.  There are about 1200 homes in the Lake Claire community made up of 37 streets.

You won't find a lake in Lake Claire; the name comes from a combination of the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Claire Ave. While most of the homes in Lake Claire are older, there are some newer construction homes peppered in. The homes are Craftsman Style, Bungalows, old Victorians with huge front porches and even some modern ones mixed in.

Lake Claire neighborhood schools include Mary Lin Elementary, Inman Middle and Grady High School.

Recreation in Lake Claire includes the community salt water pool.  The initiation fee to join the Lake Claire Pool is $2,500. Annual dues are $300 for individuals and $450 for families. Membership is limited to about 400 families.  The City of Atlanta seems to have parks everywhere, including Lake Claire. Lake Claire Park has tennis courts, playing fields, playground and picnic area.

Ridgeland Park in Decatur GA

Ridgeland Park in Decatur GA is a mix of older and newer homes. This neighborhood is unique in that part of it lies within the City Limits of Decatur and some of it is outside in unincorporated DeKalb County. The streets include Willow Lane, Pensdale Road, Eastland Drive, Greylock Place, part of Scott Blvd and part of Medlock Rd. 

Some of the older homes in Ridgeland Park were built in the late 1940's. One of the neighbors is an original owner who initially bought his home for $13,000 in 1949.  If you were to go into the older homes, you might recognize some similarities from the original floor plans, many of which have been changed and added on to over the years. 

This friendly Decatur, GA neighborhood has many of the original brick bungalows with hardwood floors and the living room picture window.  Mixed in you'll see the new construction, often done in a craftsman style with hardi-plank siding and cedar shake details.

Ridgeland Park is appealing to so many people because of it's close proximity to Emory University, Agnes Scott College, the CDC and downtown Decatur, GA. Homes currently on the market range from $190,000 (a short sale) to $679,900.

Sycamore Station is a quaint townhome community in Decatur, GA. For the first half of 2009, list prices range from $225,000 - $249,000. Average days on market are an astonishing 13 days for the 3 that have sold this year. This is a hot community in the City of DecaturSycamore Station in Decatur GA

Sycamore Station's close proximity to DeKalb Medical Center, downtown Decatur, Emory and the CDC add to the benefit of living there.  It's off of Sycamore Rd which runs off of Church Street and Ponce de Leon Ave in Decatur. 

Sycamore Station has a total of 63 homes with firewalls in between each. As you drive through the community, you almost immediately relax with the soothing soft colors of blue, green, yellow and tan, actually kind of a sand color.  These homes all have 1 car garages. They are 3 to 4 bedrooms and range from 1348 to 1648 square feet.  

There is a clubhouse and lovely pool with 3 jets that arch the water and make a gentle water fountain sound. Sycamore Station residents are permitted to rent the clubhouse for private parties. Homeowner Association dues of $110 a month cover exterior maintenance, exterior fire/liability insurance, pool and clubhouse.   Sycamore Station was built between 1986 and 1989.

Emory Parc Manor in Decatur GA

 Emory Parc Manor in Decatur GA is a wonderful community of 81 single family homes, each different from the next, yet carefully blended. The homes have brick, stone, hardi-plank siding and some have cedar shake. It’s an elegant community with flowering trees in medians and roundabouts. The community green space is park like with a pavilion and benches for meeting friends and neighbors.

Emory Parc Manor was built by Certified Professional Home Builders John Willis and Monte Hewett 2002-2004. If you are not familiar with these Award-Winning builders, then you are in for a treat. They stand behind their work and the craftsmanship and attention to detail are second to none.

Homes in Emory Parc Manor range in price from the high 500’s to the high 600’s. They have 3 to 5 bedrooms. All of the homes have 2 car garages, many of them side or rear entry. Hardwood floors, fabulous built-ins, screened in back porches and kitchens built for entertaining are common here.

DeKalb County’s Mason Mill Park and Tennis Center back up to Emory Parc Manor. Just take a walk down the gentle path to it. Mason Mill Park is 111 acres and includes multi use fields, tennis courts, recreation center, picnic area, lake, trails and dog park.

Emory Parc Manor is in an excellent Decatur, GA location. To get there from I-85 North, turn right on North Druid Hills Rd, turn right on Clairmont Rd, Turn Left on Mason Mill Rd. Emory Parc Manor is convenient to Emory, the CDC and the V.A. Hospital.

Decatur Square Condos in Decatur, GA

Decatur Square Condos are on Church Street in Decatur, GA. They are located next to Decatur’s Glenn Lake Park with pool, tennis courts and playground. The park is 17 acres and backs up to Decatur Square Condos. The Tudor style condos were built in 1968 and 1969.  It's in a great neighborhood and walking distance to downtown Decatur.

  • Building 1175 has 2 story townhomes that overlook the courtyard and the pool. They are 1064 square feet.
  • Building 1177 and 1227 have 4 units each of level living with 3 bedrooms. They are 1215 square feet.
  • Buildings 1179, 1181, 1227, 1229 and 1231 are 2 bedroom 1 level units with 936 square feet.
  • Building 1225 has 1 bedroom units that are 648 square feet.

As of July 2009, condos at Decatur Square range in price from $109,000 to $159,000. Affordable onsite storage is available for $120 a year.

There are 2 onsite pools. There is a laundry room, although most of the units have washer dryer hookups. They all have balconies or patios.

Homeowner Association fees run from $175 to $233 depending on the size of the unit. HOA dues include water, sewer, pest control, termite bond, exterior maintenance and the pools. Decatur Square has a strong HOA. The exterior of the buildings have recently been painted and new roofs were installed this year without any assessments to the residents.

Schools for Decatur Square include sought after City of Decatur’s Glennwood Elementary, Renfroe Middle and Decatur High School.

Historic Druid Hills AtlantaSpringdale Road is a tree lined sidewalk street filled with old estate homes. The street stretches 1.4 miles from the south end where it ends at Fairview Rd (one of my favorite streets in Atlanta) to the north end where it just crosses North Decatur Rd after crossing The By Way. It intersects with Ponce de Leon Ave between Decatur and the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta. Tree lined Springdale Rd in Druid Hills This is unincorporated Dekalb County and that means lower taxes.

The styles are varied from Tudor to Colonial, Traditional to Georgian and Italian Manor. Many of the homes have guest or carriage houses or in law suites.  Some of those are used as rental income. The homes on Springdale Rd in Druid Hills tend to range in price from the $1.3 million to $2.2 million.  One of the homes was featured in Southern Architect in 1923 and has wrought iron posts from the old Governor's mansion. Another estate home built around 1917 was once owned by Ernest Woodruff and has a private tennis court on the property.

The W Residences Downtown Atlanta are pretty amazing. These condos range in price from $280,000 to $2.3 million.  It's in the middle of Allen Plaza where almost 40,000 people are expected to be living within the next couple of years. Allen Plaza is a new live, work, play district.  I recently went through one of the upper end condos there at the W Residences Downtown Atlanta. It was absolutely huge at over 4,000 square feet. The one currently on the market for $2.3 million is just 3,304 square feet.

The views of Atlanta, GA from this building are spectacular. Amenities at the W Residences Downtown Atlanta include a Fitness Center, Bliss Spa, a restaurant and bar, and a 16th floor zero edge pool. The pool looks like it's overflowing but it's not, that's the zero edge. It's very cool. There is also the famous W Hotels Whatever/Whenever concierge services and 24 hour valet.

This condo also features the Southeast's 1st residential rooftop helipad for those that like to travel above Atlanta's traffic.
